The FilmStar 2K-HD is the industry's first multi-format, high speed motion picture film scanner capable of scanning amateur, professional, and government archive film formats.
The FilmStar 2K-HD Motion Picture Film Scanning system consists of a 2K 16mm/8mm precision film scanner, a Host PC running Windows 7 for control/imaging/processing, and a high speed Fiber NIC connection to the customers’ long term storage or SAN. The scanner, in its basic configuration, contains a high resolution 2K colour camera such that 2K, HD, or SD imaging is possible without any upgrade. By default, the system is delivered as a 16mm single format configuration with up to 1000’ reel support, although a dual format 16mm/8mm option (Option 8MM) is available and usually desirable. 16mm 2K scanning speed runs at 14fps while 8mm 1K speed is at 28fps for regular and 25fps for Super 8mm. An Option called RTS (Real Time Speed) is available that doubles the current speeds such that 14fps à 28 fps (16mm), 28fps à 56fps (8mm), and 25fps à 50fps (S8mm). An Additional Option called OPR (Optical Perforation Registration) replaces our sprocket roller with a laser perforation detection system that precisely handles shrunken and damaged film while maintaining frame sync by detecting perforation edges optically. Typical outputs formats supported are Quicktime, DPX, AVI, & MP4 that facilitate the creation of both DVD & BLU-RAY discs. The nature of its dual format high resolution design, along with the implementation of the OPR & RTS options, enables the FilmStar 2K-HD scanner to precisely digitize old, damaged, and shrunken motion film archives and ultimately generate quality digital products for your customers.
